A PROFILE, IN HER OWN HAND
all about
the author.
Sixteen. Rising senior at Lynbrook. Poet on most days, policy nuisance on the rest | currently smuggling a first novel out of a spiral notebook.

§ 01 · ORIGIN
I, Xara Aman, am a rising senior at Lynbrook | and a writer.
A passion for civic justice and policy change keeps me loud in the daytime. When I'm not advocating, you'll find me curled up with a book | or perhaps even writing one.
I lean toward poetry and short stories, but I'm currently working on a novel. My biggest honor so far: the Scholastic Gold Key | the push I needed to keep writing.
§ 02 · INHERITANCE
Macbeth
at six.
My admiration for literature stemmed from age six, when I read the children's Macbeth. I didn't want to limit myself to reading | I wanted to express it. At seven, I went to India and began to learn more about my family.
My grandfather, Bolwar Mahamad Kunhi, is one of the most famous writers in India, the only Indian author to win the Sahitya Akademi Award twice. His stories have served as inspiration for films, and his work is studied in most schools.

"Writing is something that was not only fun, but rewarding."

§ 03 · THE GLASS CUPBOARD
A tall glass cupboard, loaded with the glistening of medals.
I stood in front of it, awestruck. Trophies stacked behind trophies, awards behind awards. In that glass, writing stopped being a hobby and started looking like an inheritance, something not only fun, but rewarding.
